Program Notes
Yellow Folk Suite is a selection of small Brazilian folk songs that are known widely by around two hundred million people. These songs are a part of school life up through adult life, and children begin to learn them as babies. It is a rich inheritance not only for one country, but for the whole world.
This version with five songs -- Fui No Toróró, O Cravo E A Rosa, Pirolito, Tutú Marambá And Rosa Amarela -- was written for instrumental groups with five melodic parts and three percussion parts. Green Folk Suite is part of a major project dedicated to music composed for brass and winds without any specific indication of instrumentation (open score), which makes this piece ideal for beginners playing in any kind of brass and/or wind ensemble.
