Program Notes

This was composed in New Orleans during a concert tour. The tour was with a pianist, so the original is probably violin/piano, though it seems to have later been orchestrated. According to Boris Schwarz and Sarah Hibberd in an the article on Vieuxtemps in Grove Music Online, Souvenir d’Amérique, on ‘Yankee Doodle’, op. 17, was published in Leipzig and London, c. 1845.
