Program Notes

With Every Sunrise is a lyrical composition that is all at once poignant, uplifting, and wistful, yet hopeful in its presentation. Moments of power and joy contrast with the gentle nature of the piece.

Dedicated to the memory of Kris Robert Sebens, this is the third piece commissioned of Robert Sheldon by the Normal West Community High School Band, the others being A Longford Legend in 1995 and Metroplex: Three Postcards from Manhattan in 2005. The premiere performance of With Every Sunrise took place in June of 2015 in the Sydney Opera House, with the composer conducting.
