William Pagán-Pérez

Biography

William Pagán-Pérez (b. 1976, Yauco, Puerto Rico) is a Puerto Rican trombonist, composer and music teacher living in the United States.

Professor Pagán-Pérez holds a bachelor's in music (2003), a performance certificate from the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico (2006), and a master's degree in music from the University of Utah. He was professor of trombone at the University of Puerto Rico (2009).

Mr. Pagán-Pérez is a former trombone instructor and brass ensemble conductor at University of Puerto Rico (Río Piedras Campus). Also, Mr. Pagán-Pérez taught trombone, music theory and conducted beginners and intermediates symphony orchestras and concert bands at the Youth Orchestra Program of Puerto Rico (POSJU), the System of Youth Orchestras and Choirs- Música 100 X 35, and the Secondary School (UHS) of the University of Puerto Rico. Mr. Pagán-Pérez is the assistant director and faculty of the Song and Wind Brass Instruments Seminar, offered in many educative institutions in Puerto Rico.

As a trombonist, Mr. Pagán-Pérez has collaborated with different Puerto Rican orchestras and ensembles: Concert Band of Puerto Rico, The Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra, Casal’s Festival of Puerto Rico Orchestra, and the Sinfonietta Orchestra. Also, Mr. Pagán-Pérez was a trombonist of the Gillermo Figueroa Chamber Orchestra of Bayamón City for two seasons, and was a founding member of The Chilling Trombone Ensemble. Mr. Pagán-Pérez was a trombonist of many Broadway shows with the Santa Bernardita Production Company: The Sound of Music (2004- 05), The King and I (2006), The Fiddler on the Roof (2007).

For many years, he conducted different beginner and intermediate levels concert bands and symphony orchestras, composing, scoring, and arranging music to develop new repertoire with characteristics of the traditional and folkloric music of Puerto Rico, the Afro Caribbean, and Hispano America.

Mr. Pagán-Pérez teaches trombone, and history of music as a part time professor at Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico, and keeps teaching trombone, euphonium, and music theory at the Preparatory School of the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico. Today, Mr. Pagan-Perez is a public school music teacher in the Western New York Area.
