Biography

William A. Schaefer (28 February 1918, Cleveland, Ohio – 20 October 2009) was an American composer, arranger and educator.

Schaefer studied at Miami University, the University of Michigan and the Juilliard School of Music. From 1942 to 1946, he worked as a military bandmaster in the South Pacific, was director of the Kiltie Band at the Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh in 1947, and professor at the University of Southern California from 1952 to 1979, where he conducted the wind ensemble.
