Program Notes

This work was originally written in 1976 as a commission from Frank Wickes, director of the University of Florida Gator Band, as a medley of patriotic songs to be performed by the Gator Marching Band and Gator Chorus during their bicentennial halftime show. The chorus was on the field on risers, amplified, and the band was marching.

The work was revised in 2013 to be performed in a concert setting, including such additional parts as contrabass clarinet and string bass.

The work is written to be performed with or without a choir, and includes This Is My Country, I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy, You're a Grand Old Flag, and God Bless America.
