Program Notes
Challenging and emotionally charged, Turning Point was composed in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the pivotal World War II Battle of Midway (June 4-7, 1942). In one decisive engagement, the U.S. Navy destroyed four Japanese aircraft carriers and effectively ended Japan's naval superiority in the Pacific. Considered the most important naval engagement of the war, Midway paved the way for the coming Allied offensive.
Opening and closing with a haunting trumpet solo, the programmatic work captures the tension and triumph of the dramatic "turning point" in the Pacific war.
