Program Notes

Trigger, a typical opener, was commissioned by the newly founded Luxembourg Wind Orchestra (LWO) and its conductor Philippe Noesen. Fat brass chords and fast passages for wood players, accompanied by a driving rhythm, feature this fiery composition.

- Program Note by publisher

Bold brass fanfares, heroic melodies, and cascading woodwind passages characterize Trigger, a cinematic overture whose climax seems just out of reach. Each anticipated resolution reveals instead continual progressions, new doors of development persistently opening. Rhythmic motives sequence upward throughout, intensifying anticipation. One may wonder if a pulled “trigger” begins the piece, or if the entire work is an expectation of the starting line.
