Program Notes

The German engine manufacturer MTU Friedrichshafen, which long has had its own concert band, in 2006 became part of Tognum AG, which commissioned Tognum Power in 2009. That both companies produce powerful engines naturally was a heavy influence on a piece for concert band, which indeed is a most powerful type of ensemble. The character of the piece is heroic, alternating between lyrical and dramatic sections.

Tognum Power was premiered in Friedrichshafen on April 12, 2009, by the MTU Orchestra (MTU-Bläserensemble) under Reiner Hobe.
