Program Notes

Composing the music for a musical around Tintin – Prisoners of the Sun has been a delight for Dirk Brossé. Having the heroes of millions of children and adults sing was an enormous challenge. The music had to reflect the adventurous “Indiana Jones” atmosphere, but also the characteristics of figures like Cuthbert Calculus. It is fascinating to see characters such as Tintin, Castafiore, and Haddock become real people who evoke recognizable emotions of friendship, loyalty, and melancholy – all of this with the greatest respect for Hergé’s work.

Johan de Meij arranged, in consultation with Dirk Brossé, a wonderful selection from Tintin – Prisoners of the Sun , in which various styles and genres meet and cross each other. The following tunes can be heard: Rascar Capac, When the Campfire is Burning, The Waltz of the Professors, Friendship Forever and Ever, The Pyre, and The Sun as a spectacular finale.
