Program Notes

Number three in the extremely popular Barnhouse Bach series. Thus Do You Fare, My Jesus by J.S. Bach is very lush and beautifully scored and this arrangement by Alfred Reed is simply beautiful.

Thus Do You Fare, My Jesus was arranged for Peter J. Demos and the Wind Philharmonia, Westfield State College, Massachusetts.

- Program Note from publisher

The source materials for Thus Do You Fare, My Jesus comes from a set of 69 "Sacred Songs and Airs" attributed to Bach and published in 1736. All that exists from that edition is a single melodic line and figured bass. Though Alfred Reed "freely transcribed" this work, by composing all of the filigree in the woodwinds, the majesty of Bach's timeless music soars through.
