Program Notes

Experience the mysteries of Bonampak, an ancient structure located in an old Mayan village in Mexico. This programmatic work musically portrays three different rooms within the structure, known for its incredible paintings, and is thus divided into three sections — Robing of the Nobles, War, and Ceremony. After an explosive fanfare with brass and percussion, an intense war features powerful fugue statements. The final section is based on an authentic Mayan song and brings the work to a powerful conclusion.
