Tania Owens

Biography

Tania Owens (b. Australia) is an Australian flutist, composer and music educator.

Ms. Owens graduated from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music in 1989 and has worked as a music teacher throughout Queensland. She is a passionate educator across both primary and high schools.

In 2014 she returned to the QLD Conservatorium of Music to study composition. She has studied with Stephen Cronin, Gerard Brophy, Josephine Jin and Ralph Hultgren.

Tania has composed in various music genres including concert band, string quartet, wind quintet and flute choir. In 2017 her piece Fantasie for Solo Flute won second prize in the Australian Flute Festival’s composition competition, as well as the Howard Bowles Prize at the Music Teachers’ Association of Queensland composers’ competition. In 2019 Tania had two pieces, Spanish Lady and Soran Bushi. commissioned and premiered by the junior flute choir at the Australian Flute Festival in Sydney. Accidental Encounters and Casual Conversations was premiered by Leanne Swanson and Helen Lowe at a concert held for International Woman’s Day in Brisbane in January 2019

When not composing or teaching, Tania plays both Classical and Irish flute and has performed at festivals, dances and concerts in her local community.
