Program Notes

This bold fanfare uses comfortable ranges yet achieves moments of great power, harmonic intricacy, and excitement. The opening features massive percussion along with dialogues between brass and woodwinds. As the celebration ensues, rhythm becomes the focus and melodic ideas dance around. As the music develops, the opening fanfare returns in augmented fashion while woodwinds continue the dancing rhythmic pulse.

- Program Note from publisher

Written in honor of the 60th concert by the Intercounty Band in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, this piece was intentionally written in the style of a “fanfare and celebration.” The title Synthesis comes from the development of two independent themes (the “fanfare” theme and the “celebration” theme), which are ultimately juxtaposed toward the end of the piece.

- Program Note from Kell High School Wind Ensemble concert program, 20 December 2017
