Program Notes

Expertly arranged for band by Jay Bocook, the Symphonic Suite is true to John Williams’ masterful scoring for the film Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which earned Williams his 50th Academy Award nomination. This suite is based on the Grammy-winning soundtrack’s Jedi Steps and Finale, where themes from the Main Title and The Attack on the Jakku Village, Rey’s Theme, “Follow Me, I Can Fly Anything, and March of the Resistance are woven together. It also features an additional “concert ending,” courtesy of Mr. Williams.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (also known as Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens) is a 2015 American epic space opera film directed, co-produced, and co-written by J. J. Abrams. The seventh installment in the main Star Wars film series, it stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Max von Sydow. The Force Awakens is set 30 years after Return of the Jedi; it follows Rey, Finn, and Poe Dameron's search for Luke Skywalker and their fight alongside the Resistance, led by veterans of the Rebel Alliance, against Kylo Ren and the First Order, successor to the Galactic Empire. John Williams, composer for the previous six films, returned to compose its score.
