Program Notes
Students will love this high-energy delight from the Renaissance era. Accessible by very young bands, every section has the melody at various times. Lively percussion helps keep the dance tune invigorating as the piece catapults toward the surprise presto ending.
- Program Note from publisher
Sword Dance is taken from Orchesographie by Thoinot Arbeau, written in 1588. Arbeau's collection of dance tunes is considered a definitive source of dance music of the era. The Sword Dance melody is one of the variations of Air des Buffoons.
Dedicated to the Allendale, Michigan, Bands and their director, Tony Bush.
