Program Notes

StarCatchers was commissioned by the Central District Bandmaster’s Association for performance by the 2016 Middle School All-District Symphonic Band on January 30, 2016. The five-and-a-half-minute piece was inspired by the young fiction series Peter and the Starcatchers by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, which explores the younger adventures of Peter Pan that took place before he met the Darling family as told by J.M. Barrie. It is meant to capture the innocence, adventure, and wonderment experienced by Peter, Molly, and the lost boys as they travel around in search of the magical “star stuff ” to keep it out of the grips of the evil pirate Black Stache.
