Biography

Spencer Brand (b. 1994, Alexandria, Minn.) is an American trumpeter and composer.

Mr. Brand is attending Arizona State University for a Masters of Music in Composition and Trumpet Performance [2017] and holds a BMus in Trumpet Performance with a Management minor from the University of Minnesota. His teachers include Jody Rockmaker, Kotoka Suzuki, Alex Lubet, and Mary Ellen Childs.

Mr. Brand’s compositional career started with winning the Northrop Fanfare Composition Competition in 2014. His compositions now span from works for solo instruments to various large ensemble pieces, often featuring themes about Minnesota wildlife. He has received commissions from the Phoenix Art Museum, Gethsemane Lutheran Church, and from Jerry Luckhardt to write a piece for the symphonic band in recognition of the University of Minnesota’s 125th Anniversary of Bands. Spencer Brand’s piece Stances, a trio for flute, cello and double bass, has recently been selected a finalist for the PROJECT Trio Composition Competition.

Mr. Brand is a member of the Society of Composers Inc. and the American Composer’s Forum.
