Program Notes

The title of this work is inspired by ancient tales told through the eyes of those men and women who crafted the tools of the trade for knights. The bombastic crash of steel (cymbals) and the crack of an anvil (brake drum) fill the air, ushering the sounds of war. Blacksmiths and their apprentices toil by the forge, pumping air into the kiln and bending iron to their will. Knights and their squires polish and oil plated armor and pull taught leather straps in great anticipation, and terrible anxiety. All singing the song of stone and steel.

I had immense fun writing this work, and I hope that not only are you inspired to play, but inspired to explore the fascinating world of the tales of old.
