Program Notes

This dynamic and challenging new work from Richard Saucedo is filled with rich musical imagery. The opening section features prominent roles for alto and soprano sax soloists while the percussion section provides a pulsating ostinato accompaniment. After a beautiful lyric section, the fast pace returns with antiphonal tradeoffs, and culminating in a bombastic statement from the entire ensemble.

- Program Note from publisher

Shooting Stars is a series of quasi-chamber music segments with an occasional tutti band moment here and there. The piece should be a great showcase for your soprano sax and alto sax soloists. Although there is much technique to endure, the more experienced bands should find this a fun piece to play.

My sincere thanks to Jeffrey Siepak, Director of Bands at Adlai Stevenson High School (Il.) for commissioning this work.
