Program Notes

Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical sensation Cats has given us some of the most exhilarating songs in musical theater today. This medley by John Edmondson captures the mystique and emotion of the hit show that repeatedly sold out in New York. Featuring clever songs about cats such as: Old Gumbie Cat, Skimbleshanks, Jellicle Cats, MacCavity, the Mystery Cat, and Memory.

- Program Note from publisher

Although he was the deviser of the children's board game Calamity!, Andrew Lloyd-Webber is far better known to the world as the composer of hit musicals. The most popular and commercially successful of these is the one based on 14 poems from T.S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cat that his mother often read to him when he was a young boy.

The musical does not have any story to speak of, and no spoken dialogue, and yet it won seven Tony awards and was the second longest running show in the history of Broadway, topped only by Phantom of the Opera. All of the whiskers, tails and toe shoes were hung up for the last in September 2000 after nearly 18 years and a record-setting 7485 performances.
