Program Notes

Sarasota, Florida, was the traditional winter home of the circus, and Karl King was the conductor of the Barnum and Bailey Circus band in 1917 and 1918. (Ringling Bros. combined with Barnum & Bailey in 1919 to create the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Combined Shows.) This traditional wintering ground is presumably the inspiration for the title of King's march.
