Program Notes

The success of Mark Williams' tongue-in-cheek holiday medleys tend to be novelty hits of the season. This piece mashes up three John Philip Sousa marches with familiar Christmas carols. Starting off with The Stars and Stripes Forever, mixed with an assortment of carols including: Jingle Bells; Up on the Housetop and Jolly Old Saint Nicholas. Semper Fidelis, combined with O Little Town of Bethlehem, leads to a brilliant, contrapuntal treatment of Deck the Halls and The Washington Post, which brings the medley to a hilarious surprise ending.
