Program Notes

Composed on January 1st, 2017, Roaring Run was intended as a work for the third concert ensemble at Kiski Area High School. This fast-paced piece draws inspiration from the Kiskiminetas River passing by a trail in Apollo, Pennsylvania, called Roaring Run. The Kiskiminetas is a growing destination for kayaking and canoeing in the summer. Though it looks serene, it is known as having one of the fastest undercurrents in the northeast United States. This is represented musically through the use of a woodblock, which always remains in a fast 3/4 meter as the character changes in the soundscape.
