Program Notes

The rain won't stop, the water is rising and time is running out! This creative selection perfectly captures the feeling of urgency through energetic rhythmic interplay and underlying active percussion. Written for beginning band using only the first six notes, this dramatic music has plenty to teach young musicians while keeping everyone on the edge of their seats!

- Program Note from publisher

I wrote the piece in the winter of 2015 in the middle of one of what has turned out to be multiple "1000-year flood" events in the St. Louis region, undoubtedly as the result of our changing climate. As I was writing what would become one of the main themes, I noticed water coming through the baseboard in my basement office. It turns out that our sump pump had stopped working after days of rain. Fortunately, I was able to get it fixed in time, but the title stuck. The publisher shied away from the climate change aspect of the piece, but that's what it refers to!!
