Program Notes

Providing a festive mood and highly appealing musical moment, this celebratory piece expresses the joy and exhilaration of a new beginning. Any concert program will be enhanced by the tuneful melodies and intricate rhythmic conversations between the instruments.

-Program Note from publisher

This is a celebrative work that begins in meter (. = 138) marked Vivo. The primary thematic material is first presented in the trumpets while a secondary theme is soon heard in the alto saxophones and horns. The opening section provides solo opportunities for clarinet, flute, trumpet and euphonium. A slower and more legato section offers contrast. Solo oboe, cued to trumpet, introduces the melody that is immediately repeated by the upper woodwinds with added counterpoint in the alto saxophones and horns. The scoring in this middle section offers solo opportunities for both trumpet and horn. The closing section repeats much of the opening material leading to a satisfying finale. Best suited to high school students, this inviting new work will serve as a colorful concert opener.
