Program Notes

Composer Jack Stamp writes, “This work was commissioned by the William G. Enloe High School Symphonic Wind Ensemble and their conductor David Rockefeller in Raleigh, North Carolina. Dave said, “'I’m tired of loud band pieces. Please write something soft and quiet.' "

The piece is based on a chorale that I wrote while a summer graduate student at the University of Northern Colorado in 1984. The work is composed backwards with the chorale that the opening material is based on appearing at the end of the work.
