R. Kevin Paul
Biography
R. Kevin Paul (b. 1971, Virginia) is an American trumpeter, composer and educator.
Mr. Paul studied at Radford University (Bachelor of Music degree in education), Virginia Commonwealth University (Master of Music degree in conducting performance). He has served as a member of several brass quintets, principal trumpet of the Richmond Philharmonic, assistant principal trumpet of the Richmond Symphonic Winds, and a trumpeter with the Petersburg Symphony and other chamber ensembles. He is the founder of the Richmond Brass Consort, a large brass and percussion ensemble.
Since 1989, Paul has taught music to students of all levels, from elementary school to graduate school, both publicly and privately. He was a middle school band director in the Virginia public schools and a part-time faculty member at SweetBriar College and Luynchburg (Virginia) College. Kevin is currently [2021] director of bands at East Yancey Middle School and Cane River Middle School in Burnsville, N.C.
As a composer, Paul has written music for concert band, brass ensemble, and brass quintet. Paul is president and founder of Waterton Brass Music, a small brass music publishing company.
