Program Notes

A quadriga, also known as a four-in-hand car in German, is based on the ancient model of a two-wheeled chariot that is pulled by four draft animals, mostly horses, that are walking next to each other. The well-known Moravian composer František Maňas (1921-2004) wrote a splendid concert march with the title Quadriga Marsch based on this motif.
