Program Notes
Composer Ron van Riel was inspired by the life story of Maurits van Oranje (1567-1625). At the age of eighteen, Maurits followed in his father's footsteps when he became stadtholder of Holland, Zeeland and Utrecht, and of the regions Gelderland and Overijssel years later. Maurits was a brilliant military strategist, and thanks to his reforms, the Spaniards were kept at bay. Prince Maurice describes the triumphs and the wars he endured.
