Program Notes

Composed in the summer of 2020 amid a raging pandemic, shocking expressions of state and racial violence, and the rapid deterioration of democracy at home and abroad, Portraits of Ecstatic Flight is a call to the respite of the non-physical self and is intended as a musical sanctuary to aid in accessing our highest aspects.

This piece was written for a reduced ensemble to accommodate Indiana University’s COVID-19 social-distancing policies and was to have been premiered under the directorship of Dr. Eric Smedley in the fall of 2020.
