Program Notes

The work begins marked “Allegro con Spirito,” and features an exciting fanfare figure in the brass along with supportive woodwind flourishes that lead to the primary theme first played by the trumpets. A slower more legato middle section, marked “Andante espressivo,” explores changing textures and balances the energy and drive of the outer sections. A solo trumpet is highlighted. Soon the primary theme returns, preparing an exciting finale section built upon the opening fanfare.

-Program Note from The Instrumentalist, June/July 2014

This tuneful and effervescent piece was inspired by the passion and energy of the New Horizons Band movement that's sweeping the country. Countless adult "beginners" have discovered the enjoyment of music-making and this piece reflects the dedication and joy that's experienced in making music together.

-Program Note from publisher

Wayne Broom commissioned Overture to a New Horizon to honor his father, George Broom, Conductor of the East Cobb New Horizons Band in Marietta, GA in recognition of 60 years and a teacher/conductor.
