Program Notes

This overture was composed for Adolphe Eugene Philippe d’Ennery’s play Vautour, the Vulture. It was often programmed by the Sousa Band with the subtitles "The Vulture" or "The Vampire." Curiously, a foreign edition published by Lafleur & So was entitled "San Souci" (Carefree).
