Program Notes

From a political point of view, Reinhold Glière felt very committed to the national movement in Russia. That is why he was regarded as an exalted figure of the Soviet Union, and he received many awards. His Overture Solennelle was composed in 1937 in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the October Revolution and, like most of his works, it shows features of the Russian Romantic.
