Opeloge Ah Sam

Biography

Opeloge Ah Sam (b. 1979, Samoa) is a Samoan New Zealander composer and educator.

Dr. Ah Sam studied music composition at Auckland University and the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, and completed a Ph.D. in music composition at Victoria University of Wellington, where he worked as a mentor and lecturer in Pasifika Music Performance. In 2021 he was a research fellow at Victoria University for 2021

During his career, Opeloge has worked as a professional musician in various roles including composer, conductor, pianist, stage manager, percussionist, and event manager. His composition We are Pasifika, the first fully Pacific orchestral repertoire concert of its kind, was performed by the Manukau Symphony Orchestra.

Passionate about music education, Opeloge is a music teacher at Abundant Life School in Kaitaia.
