Program Notes

In 2010, Ešenvalds composed Only in Sleep for mixed choir. The text was borrowed from Sara Teasdale’s poem of the same name. Telling the story of an older woman as she dreams and reflects on her childhood, Ešenvalds' simple, yet expressive melodies perfectly capture the emotions and experiences of her nostalgic state. With permission from the composer, Ellie Anderson transcribed the music for wind band.
