Program Notes

In July 1969, Apollo 11 completed its mission to the moon and Neil Armstrong made his famous proclamation "That's one small step for man..." as he stepped out onto the lunar surface. This descriptive work for young bands captures the drama of that moment and offers the option of using actual audio clips from the mission for a truly magical effect.

- Program Note from publisher

On July 20th, 1969, upon completing humanity's first mission to the moon, Neil Armstrong spoke the words "That's one small step for man, one giant step [sic: leap] for mankind." In the decades following this mission, these words became some of the most historic ever spoken, as well as a beacon of hope for innovation and future exploration.

Published 50 years after this day, Michael Oare's One Small Step works to capture the heroism and achievement of the Apollo 11 mission. Between Oare's skillful composing and the use of audio clips from the landing, this piece succeeds in conveying the drama, heroism and thrill of that moment.
