Program Notes

On the Trail is the third movement of Ferde Grofé's Grand Canyon Suite. As described in the composer's explanation for this piece, the musical scene being portrayed makes reference to a donkey ride through the gorge. The use of grace notes, coupled with the short-long rhythmic pattern of the piece help to create the imagery of the movement.
