Program Notes

This is a major work for mature bands. Musically, the composer gives us, rather than a story, a montage of images the modern era associates with the "Old West": expansive themes, rollicking "Copeland-esque" cowboy music, "pony soldier" charges, and musical homage to that pioneer spirit that tamed the prairies of America.
