Program Notes
The majestic opening of this regal work gives way to a driving energy that continues throughout. As is his signature with any work for concert band, Gilroy makes great use of the percussion section, most notably the mallet percussion. This composition works best with nine percussionists but can be performed with eight or fewer if need be.
Noble Gestures was commissioned by Cavitt Junior High School, Olympus Junior High School, and Granite Bay High School in honor of retired Eureka Union School District superintendent of seventeen years, Dr. Ronald Feist.
