Program Notes
The English post horn is 30 inches long, straight, valveless, and of course limited in the number of notes it can produce. This ancient instrument first gained recognition in the United States primarily through the efforts of Master Chief Musician Frank Scimonelli (1918-1996). A trumpet instrumentalist with The United States Navy Band from 1940 to 1966, Scimonelli thrilled audiences worldwide with his dazzling Post Horn performances. English composer Roger Barsotti wrote New Post Horn Galop for Scimonelli in 1956.
