Program Notes

Pulsating rhythms, dark harmonies, and constantly contrasting musical elements give this edgy work the feel of a spy novel unfolding. The composer’s imagination and scoring expertise are on full display here as every phrase displays some type of unusual twist. One never knows what lies ahead in this always surprising musical caper.

- Program Note by publisher

Mystery and Mayhem is a composition that will give musicians an opportunity to explore contrasts in sounds and harmonies that they might hear when watching a suspenseful movie or television show. So many of the various sounds created by background music help to enhance the emotional element that is portrayed in movies and television. The use of dark harmonies as well as unexpected “moments” in the composition will give the listener a sense of uneasiness. An attempt is made in the composition to give melodic statements to many of the instrumental sections. Also, the use of “silent” moments in strategic spots along with pulsating rhythms help to set up some “unusual twists” in the piece.
