Program Notes

Pomp is usually thought of as something big and serious, an element of somber ceremonies, celebrations and coronations often featuring fanfares and drums. The Mouse King, however, celebrates a rodent, probably about three inches high, dressed in his majestic finery. It’s an imaginary procession, perhaps with the king’s subjects, whoever or whatever they may be celebrating whatever the listener’s creativity can come up with. The fanfares and drums are still present, but are adjusted for size.
