Program Notes

It was during his years in Budapest (1900–09) that Fučík was at his most productive. The Mississippi River, Op. 160 (sometimes listed as Op. 161) was composed in 1902 and first published by the Prague firm of Urbánek in 1905. Though Fučík never travelled to the United States, this piece, which has many deft touches and a typically memorable melody, is the closest he came to an ‘American’ march.

N.B. Published with Onkel Teddy (arr. Thorsten Reinau).
