Program Notes

Metrix is a multi-meter, jazz-inspired composition. The infectious rhythms and tuneful melodies are highlighted by the driving percussion riffs that propel the music through a variety of styles, moods, and textures.

The title is a play on words combining the words “matrix,” that refers to a mathematical array of numbers, and “metric,” that relates to the variety of meters used in the piece.

Metrix was commissioned by the Miller South School of the Visual and Performing Arts, Akron, Ohio, and their director, Eric Langreder.
