Program Notes

Soaring above the pulsating rhythms of the Indian tabla drums, South American percussion, and the marimba, the lingering melody of Metaphysical Travels journeys through the ensemble from one part to another until it enters the synthesized world of electronic music.

Performance Notes

The original instrumentation concept of this piece is:

  • Part 1: Flute/Vibes/Oboe
  • Part 2: Oboe/Clarinet/Alto Sax/Trumpet
  • Part 3: Clarinet/Alto Sax/Tenor Sax/Horn
  • Part 4: Bassoon/Bass Clarinet/Bari Sax/Trombone/Euphonium/Tuba

However, any instrument can play any part in whichever octave is most comfortable for the player. Because of this, the music may be adaptable for younger players or more mature players alike. With this fully adaptable score collection, any size ensemble of five players or more can successfully perform this work.

Also, the specified Marimba part can also be performed on Xylophone with soft mallets.
