Program Notes

Metamorphosis was commissioned by the Taiwan National Ocean University Wind Ensemble, Dr. Michael Chou, conductor. The piece consists a series of treatments of a simple four-note motive through various styles and textures. There's a “groove” section, expansive versions in augmentation under ostinati, a quasi-fugue in mixed meter, and recapitulation of the original statement. The ending fades out, contemplatively.
