Program Notes

From April 1860 to October 1861, the Pony Express was the fastest way to get a message across the western half of the U.S. Now David Shaffer’s exciting new composition may well be the fastest way you can get your band excited about their next concert or contest performance! It’s a colorful and invigorating work which captures the spirit of these great pioneers, and all sections of the band get a chance to lead the way. Includes exciting percussion parts which are all quite playable and yet give the music character and energy.

Last Ride of the Pony Express was commissioned by and is dedicated to the Indiana Bandmasters Association.
