Program Notes

The melodious and skillfully crafted work was inspired by the view of the river across Hudson Bay in NY from West Point where it was composed in 1952. The themes utilized are "Away, Away, Away We Go" and "Benny Havens, Oh!". The work ends triumphantly, portraying the eager feelings of the graduating cadet who has survived the uncompromising four years at West Point, who understands the true meaning of "Duty, Honor, Country".
