Program Notes

I composed this movement with a heavy heart. This movement represents reflections of the past. A sad truth, a life stripped of happiness and freedom, and no other choice but to leave this beautiful island.

- Program Note by composer

Dedicated to my dear grandmother, Onelia Santos.

- Program Note from score

Performance Notes

The percussion parts are mostly meant to sound free, with a sense of randomness. Although the movement is marked adagio, the conductor has lots of liberties for expressive decisions. The conductor is given freedom to phrase the entire movement to their liking.

All four parts are divided at times, creating horn-like sounds (traffic). Ideally, parts 1,2, and 4 have at least 2 players, and part 3 has at least 3 players. Otherwise, players may choose their line.

If the suggested instrumentation will not work for your situation, feel free to be creative. Fully adaptable parts have been included.
